ELDT Minimum Federal Curricula Requirements

Where Did ELDT Come From?

ELDT is DOT’s initiative to improve CDL driver training and road safety. The DOT's new Entry-Level Driver Training "ELDT" rules went into effect on Feb 7th, 2022. After this date, pursuing a CDL requires you to complete a set curriculum in Theory (knowledge) and a set curriculum in BTW (behind-the-wheel).

Red River is an approved provider (TPR) for On-Line Theory segment, traveling BTW and Hazardous Materials Endorsement.

How It Works

Once you have paid for any of the ELDT courses you will be required to enter your full name – EXACTLY as it is on your Driver’s License, Date of Birth, and Driver's License - State and Number.

This is the information that is required by the DOT and that Red River will use to upload your approved certificate and successful completion of the course.

1. The CDL Applicant completes the Theory portion of the ELDT using one of Red River's On-Line Courses, for Class A, B or B to A.

2. Red River enters the Driver's information into the DOT Platform.

3. CDL Applicant obtains Learner's Permit from DMV.

4. NEXT step SEE Behind the Wheel - BTW

Unique Approach to BTW

For Behind the Wheel Training- Red River Comes to You!

Searching for a solution to the new DOT ELDT requirements for CDL Driver Training? Red River is a DOT Registered Training Provider (TPR) and we have developed the following Steps for BTW, both Range and Public Road:

1. Once the Applicant is ready (CDL Applicant, with Learner’s Permit, needs seat time), Red River will send one of its FMCSA qualified CDL trainers to your location to complete the Behind-the-Wheel portion of the ELDT process. (Ask for a Proposal for costing and processes.)

2. Red River enters the Driver's information into the DOT Portal and the DMV will have access to the ELDT Completion Records.

3. Driver schedules the Skills Test at the State DMV.

HME vs. Hazmat 172.704 Certification

Let Red River Deliver Your Training Needs!

A frequently asked Question: What is the difference between the Hazardous Materials Endorsement Course and the Hazmat Certification Course?

The HME Course is: The first step in obtaining the “H” Endorsement on your CDL. And is part of the new ELDT rules that began on Feb 7, 2022. It is just for CDL Drivers wanting to haul Hazmat.

The Hazmat Certification is: The Department of Transportation (49 CFR 172.704) makes training mandatory for almost anyone who handles hazardous materials, regardless of the amount. (Hazmat Employees) This affects employees who select or fill hazardous materials packages, label containers, complete shipping papers, load or unload vehicles, transload hazardous materials, or operate vehicles used in the transport of hazardous materials. This course takes about 8 hrs to complete and is good for 3 years.
